Partisan Budget Plan to Cut $144 Million to K-12 Schools to be Considere

Late this afternoon the Governor called a special session of the Arizona Legislature to consider a budget deal she has worked out with House Speaker Kirk Adams and Senate President Bob Burns. Legislators will convene tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., but are not expected to take any action until Wednesday or Thursday.

Early this month, Governor Brewer, Adams, and Burns outlined a budget deal that will cut $144 million from K-12 education and more than $150 million from Arizona's most vulnerable citizens. If approved the plan will leave a budget seriously out of balance and require further budget adjustments in the near future.

This plan does not even consider generating new revenue from a sales tax or any other new revenue stream.

Please contact your legislators and Governor Brewer and ask them to support a comprehensive budget package rather than depend on massive cuts to public schools to balance the budget.
