4 hurt in brawl at Lewis prison complex near Buckeye

A melee involving more than 100 inmates at Arizona State Prison Complex - Lewis on Wednesday morning, leaving three inmates and one corrections officer hurt and prompting a lockdown of the facility, authorities said.

None of the four suffered life-threatening injuries, and no weapons were used in the brawl, which lasted some 10 minutes, according to state Department of Corrections spokesman Barrett Marson. The officer has bumps and bruises, and one of the inmates who had a head injury was flown to a Phoenix hospital, Marson said.
Marson said the fight broke out around 9 a.m. in a high-security unit of the prison just west of Phoenix. He said it occurred mostly in the recreation yard and the kitchen.
